Hi all
I'm so glad i found this forum today. I am a 24 yr old female, living in London who developed floaters after my poor decision to undergo laser eye surgery a few years ago! The funny thing is i now need to wear my glasses to help deflect my attention from floaters!!!
Anyway, i'm a med student hoping to qualify as a doc in just over a yr, and believe me, if any patients ever come to see me and complain of floaters, i will more understanding than the average, i promise!!!
My main problem is a largish floater in my right eye, which is about 3cm in length and has a mind of its own! It has developed wisps and smaller ones developed in my right eye the day after i was sick once (from too much alcohol!) Since then i do my utmost to avoid vomiting, but unfortunately abstaining from alcohol completely is not realistic!!! Does anyone else find vomiting makes floaters worse?
thank God i only have a large floater in one eye, if both had been affected i reckon i'd have gone loopy. Reading my books is not the greatest experience, but i struggle through somehow, trying to read past the ever-moving floater drifting across the page. I tell you what, it gets quite depressing at times, but what can you do?! Oh yeah, exam times are a nightmare, dunno how the hell i manage to pass them cos stress makes it ten times worse, but touch wood, have always manged to get thru so far!!!
Oh yeah, i went to see the laser docs in Washington (sorry, can't remeber his name off hand!) soon after the floater appeared, but he told me he couldn't see it...........which of course makes me mad right!!!! Nope, just kidding! When i finally convinced him there is something ther, i got that classic line "just learn to live with it". Between u and me, i felt like punching his lights out, but i refrained thankfully! Don't need a criminal record on top of all this!
Anyway, just wanted to share this with you all, i sometimes think i might consider FOV but am way too scared to risk it, part of me reckons i just ain't that lucky to get off scot free!!! Evry day I thank my lucky stars i'm not blind, and don't wish to take the risk, but somethimes, when its tough, i do think 'what if???'
Thanks for listening everyone! Take care of yourselves
