Yes I read that article before. Notice it is dated June 2001, over three years ago.
It states suture-less incisions and no complications from "surgical procedures", and benefits those with "significant" visual floaters. It doesn't address potential problem associated with a vitrectomy, such as the risk of a cataract.
Still it is a step in the right direction. Although I'm not sure I want to ever remove my vitreous as I learn it acts as a sort of shield (perhaps net) to help prevent oxygen from reaching the lens whereby causing oxidation (the formation of a cataract).

I also read that the younger you are the less chances that you will develop cataracts post-surgery.
Allegedly if you are in your teens you don't even get an increased risk of cataracts after surgery.
