The onset of my floaters occurred in February 2004, so I've been looking at them for 16 months now. I've learned to accept the floaters after about six months of suffering, sort of like accepting you have a permanent disability and that's just the way it's going to be from now on.
For the past month I haven't noticed my floaters on a daily basis like usual. I'm not talking about my mind tuning them out, which only works to a point; I'm talking about not seeing them in lighting conditions I would normally see them in. The floaters are still present, just not as visible. Rather then being the dark shadows they've been for over a year, they seem to have gained transparency. Where I used to see small dark masses swirling about, I now see small distortions in my vision moving about. This has made things like driving bearable again as I'm no longer distracted by movement in my peripheral vision that I sometimes subconsciously mistake as an overtaking car.
I don't know what is actually happening to my floaters. They appear to be dissolving or becoming transparent. I need to do some more reading on the subject. The only lifestyle change I made was a few months back I stopped drinking anything with caffeine in it and I cut way back on my sodium intake in an attempt to lower my blood pressure, which was in the high end of the normal range. This also meant far less junk food and overall I'm feeling healthier. I doubt if diet is a factor with floaters, but I thought I'd mention this in case someone reading this in the future has a similar experience.
Anyways, I feel I've regained much of the quality of life that I lost when these floaters first appeared. It's wonderful to be able to enjoy outdoor activities again without those little pests being so noticeable. The doctors that say floaters are a mental problem are wrong. I've experience floater hell and it's not due to a mental condition. I'm hoping the floaters will continue to fade, for now I'm just relieved they don't ruin my vision so much and now I can focus on other things.
